If it were our first time visiting France, and we had two weeks to explore, where would we go?
As French locals, we totally get the temptation to check off all the big names — the Eiffel Tower, lavender fields, châteaux, and croissants in Parisian cafés. But the real magic of France often lies between the highlights — in the little villages, winding backroads, local markets, and unplanned stops.
That’s why we’ve designed this two-week road trip itinerary, ideal for first-timers who want to experience the full diversity of France — from world-famous landmarks to lesser-known gems. You’ll get a taste of cities, countryside, castles, coastline, wine regions, and mountain charm, all at a pace that lets you actually enjoy it.
👉 You’ll need to rent a car (or a van if you're feeling adventurous) to follow this route. Driving through France is easy and rewarding, and you'll have the freedom to explore off the beaten path and stop wherever catches your eye.

The Itinerary: 14-Day Road Trip Through France
Paris – 4 Nights
Begin in the capital. From world-famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre to café culture and riverside strolls, Paris is the perfect introduction. With four nights, you can also enjoy a day trip to Versailles or Monet’s gardens in Giverny.
✨ Local tip: End one evening with a sunset picnic by the Seine — baguette, wine, and cheese included.
Loire Valley – 2 Nights
Pick up your rental car and drive a few hours south into castle country. The Loire Valley is dotted with fairytale châteaux, vineyards, and tranquil riverside towns. Visit iconic castles like Chenonceau, Chambord, and Villandry, and stay in a charming village like Amboise.
🍷 Don’t miss a wine tasting of crisp white wines like Vouvray or Muscadet.
Dordogne – 3 Nights
A drive to the Dordogne region brings you to one of France’s most enchanting corners. Think medieval villages, prehistoric caves, and incredible food. Base yourself near Sarlat-la-Canéda and explore places like La Roque-Gageacand Beynac-et-Cazenac.
🦆 Food lovers: This is the land of duck confit, foie gras, walnuts, and earthy red wines.
Provence – 4 Nights
End your trip in the sun-drenched south. Drop off your car in Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, or Arles, and spend a few days enjoying local markets, rosé wine, hilltop villages, and possibly a visit to the Calanques or Gorges du Verdon.
🌸 Lavender fields are in bloom from late June to early August!
Back to Paris – 1 Night
Use your final night to revisit a favorite spot or explore a different neighborhood before flying home.

France is more than monuments and museums — it's about the journey, the in-between places, the food stalls, village cafés, and quiet river bends. With this road trip itinerary, you’ll see the iconic sights but also the authentic side of France that locals love.
All you need is a car, an appetite, and a bit of curiosity.
Bon voyage! 🚗🇫🇷
